Job Purpose

To administer and manage an overall Care Program for each individual that comes to the Lord. It is understood that new babies in Christ need careful care if they are to survive the devils attack
and the world’s pull. Major focus will be placed upon the three basic needs of new converts: instruction, fellowship and involvement. In focusing upon these, we hope to greatly increase the retention of our new converts to a minimum of 50%.

Job Qualifications

1. Must be filled with the Holy Ghost.
2. Must meet the qualifications for church membership.
3. Must be loyal to the Pastor.
4. Must be willing to work in harmony with others.
5. Must carry a burden for the New Convert Ministry.
6. Must be able to instill enthusiasm and excitement.
7. Must be able to lead and motivate people.
8. Must be a lover of the souls of men and women.
9. Must be faithful and dependable in accomplishing duties.
10. Must have a knowledge of the operation/function of the New Convert Care ministry.

 

Job Responsibilities

** Shall oversee and supervise all operations of the New Convert Care Department under the direction of the Pastor. Shall seek to implement your duties with tact, zeal and love.

** Shall insure that any individual which (l) receives the Holy Ghost, or (2) is refilled with the Holy Ghost after a long absence, or (3) is baptized, has an Altar Card filled out on them THAT SAME SERVICE. Make sure the card is filled out as completely as possible.
a. The pastor will assist you in appointing several individuals to help you do this (in the event of your absence or revival).

** Shall oversee the “First Night Counseling” for everyone that has an Altar Card card filled out on them. This counseling will be done either by the Pastor, yourself, or other qualified individual
approved by the Pastor. Please note the following:
a. It is important that this is done the SAME SERVICE THAT they are baptized or receive the Holy Ghost.
b. The counseling should be brief, to the point, and cover these four basic concepts: (1)Your New Life, (2)Importance of daily prayer, Bible reading and consistent church attendance,
(3)The Devil’s Attack and, (4)Call the Pastor or Assistant if ANY problem arises in living for God. Use the New Converts Booklet as an outline.
c. Total time spent should only be about 15-20 minutes.
d. The convert should then be given the new converts booklet “Victorious Living For New Christians” and a cassette tape of the Pastor teaching in more detail on “The Successful Chris
tian Life.”

** Shall collect all altar cards each service and make a photocopy to be given to the following individuals, if possible, that same service (you may wish to speak to each director to insure they
know what to do when the receive the copy from you):
a. Home Bible Study Director – To start H.B.S. immediately if not already going.
b. New Life Class Instructor – To contact and enroll in the class that same week.
c. Church Secretary – To add to church records / mailing list, send New Converts Welcome Letter and Care Partner Responsibility Letter (both to be signed by Pastor).
d. Visitor Follow-up Director – To have folks drop by and visit each week.
e. Ladies Auxiliary or Men’s Fellowship or Youth – To involve in fellowship and activities (which department depends on age and/or gender).
f. Public Relations Director – To put welcome note / picture in the church bulletin & on main church bulletin board.
g. Sunday School Director – To insure that both the new convert and the converts children are enrolled in Sunday School properly.
h. Prayer Ministry Director – To assign each convert a prayer partner.
i. Pastor – To follow up on immediately as he wishes.
j. Other departments as needed.

** Shall keep the original altar card yourself for your own records. Information on the back of the card must be completed in full. All records should be accurate and up to date.
a. Be sure not to check anything as being “done” unless verified.

** Shall take roll on all new converts on Sunday night and Bible Study Night. If any new converts are missing repeatedly, alert the Pastor immediately.
a. If you are to be absent from any service, be sure to assign someone else to do this.

** Shall assign each New Convert a “Care Partner” to carry the main responsibility of raising this spiritual child in the Lord. Please note the following:
a. This should always be the person that brought that individual to the Lord. If this is not possible, find another church member that will “adopt” them who you feel would be compatible. Always consult the Pastor on this.
b. Insure that each Care Partner receives the “Care Partner Responsibility” letter from the Pastor as soon as possible (see sample). Either you or the church secretary should send this.
c. Check back with each Care Partner to insure they understand their responsibilities and are fulfilling them. Keep the Pastor informed of any problems.
d. Contact the Care Partner monthly to learn the status of each new convert.

** Shall provide each Care Partner with a “Birth Certificate” (see sample) of their new spiritual child to emphasize the importance of this responsibility. If possible, place this in an attractive
frame. Make it special!

** Shall oversee “Dinner Ministries” program. The purpose of this ministry is to build lasting friendships between the new converts and saints and let the new convert get acquainted with MANY
families in the church. Each new convert ideally should have a minimum of eight different hosts before they are released from your care. Please note the following:
a. The “Care Partner” should be the first person to have the new convert over for dinner. This dinner date should include several other couples/individuals also. These other couples/individuals will be used in subsequent dinner ministry assignments.
b. Others that may be used for dinner ministry assignments are:
(l) Home Bible Study Instructor (if not same as care partner)
(2) New Life Class Instructor
(3) Friends or relatives in church
(4) Pastor and/or Assistant Pastor
c. Explain to each Dinner Host the importance of new friendships to the New Convert by giving them a “Dinner Ministries Assignment” form (see sample). Get a commitment from each
host not to forget the date that has been pre-set.
d. Always present the completed Dinner Ministry Assignment forms to the Pastor for approval before handing them out to the prospective hosts.
e. Explain to the host that inviting the New Convert to their home for dinner is BEST, yet an invitation for lunch in the hosts home, taking them out to dinner, lunch or breakfast, or taking them out after church, is also acceptable.
f. Do your best to check back with the Host as to their faithfulness. Remind them if they forget.
g. If you have any questions/problems with the guest/host assignments, check with the Pastor.

** Shall insure that each New Convert receives the Pastor’s “New Convert Welcome” letter. Either you or the church secretary should send this.

** Shall insure that each new convert is presented a Baptismal and Holy Ghost certificate in a church service.
a. Place completed certificates on pulpit prior to service.
b. New Convert will be “introduced” to the congregation and  given an opportunity to testify as certificate is presented.

** Shall insure that each New Convert is enrolled in the New Life Class as soon as possible. The instructor should call the New Convert and welcome them that same week, inform them of the class,
and encourage faithful attendance. The instructor must be contacted monthly to learn of the students faithfulness.
a. Note: This course is best taught at the church on Sunday morning during Sunday School.
b. If New Convert is not able to attend the New Life Class (or if volume of converts is not great enough to merit a class at church), the course should be taught IN THE HOME by the spiritual parents of the convert.

** Shall insure that each New Convert completes a 10 – 12 week Home Bible Study course. This course is to be taught in the convert’s home.
a. The BEST person to teach this is the New Convert’s Care Partner (spiritual parent). If this is not possible, work with the H.B.S. Director to find another teacher. But regardless of who teaches the H.B.S., the spiritual parents should attend if possible.
** Shall insure that each New Convert (that has obeyed full Bible salvation) becomes actively involved in both an outreach oriented ministry and a church oriented ministry as soon as possible.
a. Begin encouraging this 1-2 months after the convert receives
the Holy Ghost / baptized.
b. Insure that all new converts have completed a “gifts analysis” quiz in the New Life Class. Get a copy of the completed quiz from the New Life Class instructor.
c. Insure that all new converts fill out a “Apostolic Christian Talent Search” (ACTS).
d. Using the results of the above two forms, help the convert find a ministry of involvement that fits their gifts, callings, and personality.
e. Be diligent. Involvement is critical to retention. Consult the Pastor if you have any problems.

** Shall plan a social get-together for all New Converts and their Care Partners each quarter.
a. Suggestions are: 1) Potlucks 2) Softball picnic 3) Out of town outing or fishing trip 4) Barbecue at Pastors home. Purpose is for fun and fellowship.

** Shall hand into the Pastor a copy of the “New Convert Care Confidential Report” (see sample) on the first Sunday of each month. This report must be as complete as possible and must to
be kept confidential.

** Shall insure that all New Converts remain under your care and appear on this form for at least ten months. Before any New Convert is released from your care, check with the Pastor.

** Shall alert the Pastor immediately if any problem develop with any New Convert.

Other Duties

** Shall work with the Pastor to select a department assistant to help you in all aspects of the New Convert Care Ministry.

** Shall endeavor to not schedule any departmental activities on Monday night. Monday will be known as “Family Night” and all church members are encouraged to stay home with their families on this night.

** Shall be an example to the church in faithfulness by attending all church services and functions.

** Shall be an example to the church in soulwinning by being continually involved in the Home Bible Study Ministry, or some other form of outreach ministry.

** Shall be an example to the church in spiritual growth by coming at least one-half hour before each service to pray.

** Shall attend all Annual Planning Retreats and Monthly Departmental Planning councils.

** If unable to attend because of emergency, shall inform the Pastor in advance and endeavor to have a substitute attend in your place.

** Shall hand in an official monthly report at the Monthly Staff Council.

** Shall perform additional duties as required.

Organizational Responsibilities

The New Convert Care Director is responsible directly to the Pastor. Each year, the Pastor and the Care Director will review this Job Description, update and improve to make more applicable
to the position. Accountability shall consist of two reports:  one is a “Confidential Report” to be given to the pastor only,  and the second is a Monthly Report of all departmental activities
and upcoming events to be given at the monthly council. The Care Director is responsible for all individuals that assist them in any way. The director shall work closely with all departments,
but especially with Home Bible Study, Visitor Follow-up, and Public Relations. Evaluation of performance of this position shall be performed by the Pastor on an annual basis. The term of
this office shall be for one year.
