Morning Prayer

By Roger Hennigan, Editor

Why morning prayer? First things first. Why not first? God should get the first of everything in your life. We should start the day with prayer. One of the best ways of praying is using the Lord’s prayer as a guide.

1. “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”

We should recognize the position of our God and also understand our position, we are just dust of the earth while He is the Lord of Glory. We are the creation while He is the creator. We also need to recognize the Name of our God. His name is not just father, or son, or whatever. His name is Jesus. We need to begin the day with praise and calling on Jesus.

2. “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in beaver.”

In this part of the prayer, we think about what needs to be done today. Write down the things that are needful today and then the things that are optional. But in everything, remember it must be what God would want. For whatever the will of heaven is needs to be in earth. Pray for all of your family during this special time.

3. “Give us this day our daily bread.”

We need to realize our dependence is still in God. Just because we have food in the cupboard and milk in the ‘frig’ doesn’t mean we can do without God’s help. In order to pray this part of the prayer, it has to be daily. Don’t let one day go without prayer.

4. “Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”

We must forgive in order for God to forgive us. Every day we need to examine our hearts and make sure there is nothing there against someone else. A little seed of bitterness or unforgiveness will eventually destroy our life if not placed on the altar.

5. “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

If you are struggling with temptation, this is the time to tell God about it. He will not allow any temptation that is too much for you. He will make a way to escape. Our problem is that we don’t want deliverance many times. Don’t blame God, He has provided an escape route.

6. “For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever, Amen.”

We must give him glory and worship. He said, and I, if I be lifted up from the earth will draw all men unto myself. When we give him this position in our life He will bless us and our families.

Prayer first means it always gets done. You won’t have to continually be trying to find time to pray if you do it first. And the day always goes better with prayer.
