Job Responsibilities

** Shall oversee and supervise all operations of the Prayer Ministry  Department under the direction of the pastor. Shall seek to  implement all duties with tact, zeal, and dedication.  a. Please Note: We are not trying to make people feel guilty  about prayer, but to promote a life-style of prayer. Not  everyone will be able to attend all prayer meetings. Some  will be involved in other parts of the work of God. It is  your job to encourage people to pray, not force them to pray.  Prayer that comes as a result of feeling guilty or pressured  does not accomplish as much as heartfelt prayer.

** Shall encourage as many as are able to be faithful to early morning prayer, Monday through Friday, at 6:00 a.m.

** Shall encourage all church members to be faithful to Saturday Evening prayer, 7:00 p.m – 9:00 p.m.

** Shall strongly encourage a half-hour of prayer before all church services (your own personal faithfulness and attendance is expected).

** Shall work with the pastor to encourage daily/weekly “Family Devotions” in all possible families of the church. Shall promote Family Devotions by all available means.

** Shall make an approximate count of the number of people praying at early morning prayer, Saturday Evening Prayer, pre-service prayer, and any other special called prayer meetings. These totals will be turned in on your monthly report.
a. You may appoint others to help you do this. Clear all selections with the Pastor.

** Shall begin and maintain a Prayer Hotline in order for the church to quickly access the Throne Of God for emergency needs.
a. Print a list of names and phone numbers of all who wish to be involved. When an immediate need occurs, the first person will call the second person on the list. The second shall call the third, etc. If no one is home, the next number on the list will be called until someone is reached. That person then continues the hotline chain.
b. All hotline requests are to be cleared through the Pastor first. If the pastor is gone, use your own discretion.

** Shall help the Pastor promote and coordinate the annual Prayer and Fasting Week the first week in January each year. This week of prayer is to help the church seek guidance and prepare itself for the coming year of revival and growth.

** Shall help the pastor promote and coordinate the annual “Prayer Revival” with a special speaker. Emphasis will be upon teaching and practicing prayer (much time is devoted within each service to
prayer). Promote this strongly.

** Shall organize and oversee the Quarterly “24-Hour Prayer and Fasting Chain” that will begin at an appointed time and go “round the clock” with sacrificial praying. Commitments should be taken
to try and fill all time slots within the 24-hour period.

a. This should be promoted with a chart posted on bulletin board listing names and times committed.
b. This time will usually be followed with communion the next service.

** Shall develop and maintain a prayer request board to be used during the special times of prayer. This is to be kept in an unobtrusive area, and brought out only as needed.

** Shall direct and oversee “The Intercessors” prayer teams.
a. This group will commit themselves to at least one hour of prayer each day.
b. They will also be divided into twelve small teams or groups. Each small team will be scheduled once every three months to pray during the entire Sunday Night Service – in the prayer room – interceding for the service and Word to touch saints a and sinners alike. This way, every Sunday Night, there are people praying for that service during the service.
c. This group of prayer warriors will be used in many other ways also.

** Shall promote prayer with all available means, including church bulletin, church bulletin boards, posters, banners, fliers, passing out literature, loaning out books and tapes, etc.

** Shall maintain a “Prayer Library” of books, tapes, and articles on prayer. These are to be made available to the church membership on a “for sale” or “loan” basis. Promote the prayer library by all available means.
a. Be constantly on the lookout for new materials to add to our prayer library. (Note: all material should be cleared with the pastor before being promoted.)

** Shall recruit ‘prayer partners’ to be praying simultaneously during the ministry of any outreach or evangelism endeavor: Home Bible Studies, Saturday Door Knocking, etc.
a. A prayer partner shall also be assigned to each New Convert so that someone is specifically holding them up in prayer.
You will get a copy of all New Convert records for this purpose.

** Shall promote and encourage prayer each month on a major service night before the entire congregation.
a. Time to be given: 10-15 minutes
b. Promote prayer times, upcoming prayer plans, prayer library, etc.
c. Use a variety of methods of promotion during this time. Don’t get in the rut of just “preaching” at people.

** Shall coordinate the “Prayer Checks” method of blessing Missionaries, Home Missionaries, and others that the Pastor wishes to give them to.
a. The “Prayer Check” is like a normal check, but instead of “cash on demand”, it will supply “prayer on demand”. The person who has one can “cash it in” when ever they wish for what ever need they have. If the check is for 10 hours of prayer, then we will guarantee that amount of prayer for that need.
b. The Prayer Check is to be given with a self-stamped, self- addressed envelope. It should look much like a normal  check.
c. It is very effective to give these to visitors and sinners.

** Shall oversee and promote the annual “Bread” (Bible Reading Enriches Any Day) promotion, encouraging all members to be faithful to consistent Bible reading.

Other Duties

** Shall work with the Pastor in selecting a department assistant to help you in all phases of your departmental duties.

** Shall be an example to the church in faithfulness by attending all church services and special functions.

** Shall be an example to the church in soulwinning by being continually involved in the Home Bible Study Ministry, or some other form of outreach ministry.

** Shall be an example to the church in spiritual growth by coming at least one-half hour before each service to pray. This is a MUST.

** Shall attend all Annual Planning Retreats and Monthly Departmental Planning Councils.

** If unable to attend because of an emergency, shall inform the Pastor in advance and endeavor to have a substitute attend in your place.

** Shall hand in an official monthly report at the Monthly Staff Council.

** Shall endeavor to not schedule any departmental activities on Monday night. Monday will be known as “Family Night” and all church members are encouraged to stay home with their families on this night.
** Shall perform additional duties as required.
