The Gospel

The Gospel
By Phillip A. Dugas

“That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.” Psalms 26:7

“And he said unto them, Go ye into the all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned” Mark 16:15-16

Gospel means “the good news.” and the best news through the hearing of the gospel and obedience to it, our lives are changed forever. The apostle Paul said in Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

• The GOSPEL is the DEATH, BURIAL, and RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST.

• The GOSPEL is the GOOD NEWS because it SETTLES OUR PAST

2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he, is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

Things such as past sins, disappointments with life, failures, heartaches, pains, hurts and fears are taken away. The good news is that we don’t have to live with the failures of our past.

• The MINISTRY of JESUS

“And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.” Luke 4:17-18

Another promise from the Word of God is: “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.”John 10:10-11

• The GOSPEL is the GOOD NEWS because it ASSURES OUR FUTURE

We can live free from worrying about the future. The words “Because He lives I can face tomorrow” are from a song that we sing and receive great strength and hope.

Matthew 6:25-26 states, “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?”

Another promise is found in Matthew 6:33-34. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof”

• JESUS is COMING BACK to RECEIVE US unto HIMSELF

In John 14:1-4 we read, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe in God, believe also in me. In my Fathers house are many
mansions: if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.”

• The GOSPEL is the GOOD NEWS because IT GIVES MEANING to TODAY

We don’t have to wonder why we are here on the earth today. We are here
because God put us here. We are here to worship God and serve Him.

Our World View comes from the Bible.
1. It tells us how we got here.
2. It tells us about creation.
3. It explains where evil came from and why the world is in the mess it’s in.
4. It tells us about our destiny, either heaven or hell awaits.

We don’t wander around in a fog trying to explain these things, neither do we give our time and energy to try to find a better explanation then what the Bible says about these things.

“He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” Revelation 22:20 AA”
