It’s For You

It’s For You

By: William Evans

Acts 2:39

There’s a little chorus that goes, “It’s for me, it’s for you, it’s for your children and their children to, it’s something that will keep you if you pray, in Acts the 2nd chapter you can read it for yourself, you don’t have to ask anybody else about the Holy Ghost that Jesus is giving away.”

Peter ended his sermon on the Day of Pentecost with the glorious promise that what he had just preached was for the crowd present, to their children, and to all that are afar off — !!THAT’S YOU!!. That promise did not end with the apostles or pass away with the Dark Ages but it extends right down till “”TODAY””.

The promise of the Father — the Holy Ghost — is not just for a select group of people with the right family connections, a certain income bracket, etc., but as John said:

John 1:11-12 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.  12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: (KJV)

It’s For You !!!!

Our text is meant to express the unlimited mercy of God which embraces the hearers and all future generations of their descendants and in addition all that are afar off:

Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. (KJV)

Eph 2:17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. (KJV)

Under the inspiration of God, the prophet Isaiah made this proclamation:

Is. 45:22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. (KJV)

Is. 55:1 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. (KJV)

Jesus made this statement: John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (KJV)

John in the closing verses of his book, Revelation, cried: Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. (KJV)

It’s For You !!!!

Joel, in his prophesy, declared that in the days of the outpouring of the Holy Ghost that “it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered” Peter repeated it on the day of Pentecost in his message, “and it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Over and over again the words “all the ends of the earth”, “everyone that thirsted”, “if any man”, “whosoever will” appear in the Word of God letting us know that this salvation experience preached on the day of Pentecost and still being preached today is for !! Everybody !!

It’s For You !!!!

Peter was having a little difficulty with the fact that this experience was for the Gentiles but God gave him a vision and sent him to Cornelius’ house. As Peter was preaching in Cornelius’ house the Holy Ghost fell:

Acts 10:45-46 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.

When Peter got back to Jerusalem some of the elders had a problem with that had happened and questioned Peter, he recounted the events jut as they had happened and ended by saying:

Acts 11:17 Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? (KJV)

The Word of God declares that “”God did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name””. It happened in the book of Acts, it’s still happening today just like the Bible says “”the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.”

It’s For You !!!!

All this leads to the question that Paul asked some disciples of John at Ephesus, “have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?”
