Job Purpose

To administer and motivate the Home Bible Study Department in a manner that will result in souls being won to the Kingdom of God. Major focus will be placed upon promotion of the Bible Study Ministry, training of Bible Study Teachers, and obtaining Bible Study contacts. In focusing upon these, the Home Bible Study Department will be a powerful instrument for spreading the Gospel and fulfilling the Great Commission.

Job Qualifications

1. Must be filled with the Holy Ghost.
2. Must meet the qualifications for church membership.
3. Must be loyal to the Pastor.
4. Must be willing to work in harmony with others.
5. Must carry a burden for the Home Bible Study Ministry.
6. Must be able to instill enthusiasm and excitement.
7. Must be able to lead and motivate Bible Study teachers.
8. Must be a lover of the souls of men and women.
9. Must be faithful and dependable in accomplishing duties.
10. Must have a knowledge of the operation/functions of Home Bible Study.
11. Must be CONTINUALLY involved in teaching Home Bible Studies PERSONALLY.

Job Responsibilities

** Shall have total oversight and insure the well being of the Home Bible Study Ministry in areas of promotion, training and obtaining Home Bible Studies, under the direction of the Pastor.
Shall seek to fulfill all responsibilities with zeal and dedication.
a. 70% of your time and effort should go into Promoting H.B.S. within the church.
b. 20% of your time and effort should go into Training of H.B.S. teachers.
c. 10% of your time and effort should go into obtaining H.B.S for others to teach.

** Shall work diligently to include all interested in the ministry of teaching Home Bible Studies.
a. The director should be careful not to allow a critical spirit to develop toward those who do not participate in the Bible study ministry.

** Shall assist the Pastor in coordinating (setting date, locating speaker and promoting) of the annual Home Bible Study Training Seminar. This is to be done EVERY YEAR.
a. Should be a three to four night seminar taught by an outside speaker.
b. Should be more than just motivational preaching. Should include: How to Teach a H.B.S., How to obtain a H.B.S., How to win your H.B.S. to the Lord, etc.
c. Shall be planned at Annual Planning Retreat.

** Shall set aside one month, immediately following the annual H.B.S. Seminar, to extensively promote Home Bible Study. This emphasis month is to encourage all members to teach at least ONE Bible study that quarter. Use such promotional means as —
a. Setting goals – use a large “thermometer chart” to visually show progress toward your goal. Name of teachers make up each step toward final goal.
b. Listing all church members on large chart and place “star” by each one involved a H.B.S. Push for all to be involved in some way. Colored stars show type of involvement: Teaching, Hosting,
Assisting, Baby sitting, Praying, etc.
c. Use testimonies, graduation certificates, fliers, banners, and any other means to promote that month – Pull out ALL STOPS! This is a “once-a-year” promotion. Make it your best.
d. The Pastor MUST be involved in this promotional time.

** Shall develop an ONGOING promotional program to follow the H.B.S. Emphasis Month. The following being a minimum.
a. Once a month, take 12-15 minutes on a key service night and promote H.B.S. Use testimonies, new converts, fliers and other means in this promotional time. Care should be given not to just
“preach” at people. Use variety. PLAN YOUR TIME WELL!

** Shall develop an effective program to train NEW H.B.S. teachers:
a. Assist the Pastor in planning at least two follow-up seminars in the “do’s” and “don’ts” of H.B.S and other topics.
b. To be taught 4 and 8 months after the annual seminar with an outside speaker.
c. All new converts should be especially invited to attend and be trained.

** Shall promote and utilize the one and two lesson Home Bible Studies:
a. “Rightly Dividing The Word” by Larry Smith, P.O. Box 1226, El Campo, TX 77437
b. “Into His Marvelous Light” by Al Gossan, P.O. Box 90507, Houston, TX 77290
c. Hold at least two workshops each year to train members when to use and how to teach this type of study.

** Shall keep a stock of tapes, books, and manuals to loan or sell to those interested in teaching:
a. “Spiritual Reproduction Through Home Bible Study” – Jack Yonts
b. “How to teach a H.B.S.” (#28 ABC) – Search For Truth
c. “Explosive Church Growth Through H. B. S. “- Ronnie Wilhoit (Search for Truth)
d. “Giving & Getting Home Bible Studies” – Al Gossan
e. “Spiritual Reproduction Through H.B.S.” film strip – Home Missions Dept.

** Shall work actively at obtaining Home Bible Studies through various means:
a. All church visitors (best)
b. Church member’s families, friends or work contacts (2nd best).
c. Quest International Survey
d. Flyers, Newspapers ads, etc.

** Shall plan to utilize the Quest Survey (see “Finding the Field” – Home Missions Department) on at least a bi-monthly basis to help & encourage all trained H.B.S. teachers to obtain a study if they cannot seem to obtain their own from family, friends, or contacts.
a. NOTE: The only people that should be using the Quest Survey should be those persons willing to teach the H.B.S. they get.
b. A sample Quest Survey form and instruction sheet it provided in “Total Church Growth.”

** Shall call all church members that bring a visitor and encourage them to ask their friend or relative for a H.B.S. (you should provide a trained teacher if necessary). A copy of all visitor cards will be given to you weekly for this purpose.
** Shall hand in a weekly Home Bible Study report to the Pastor.
a. This will require contacting all H.B.S. instructors as to the status and results of their study each week.

** Shall keep accurate, up-to-date records on all H.B.S. in progress, all teachers and prospective teachers.

** Shall insure that every New Convert is taught a 10-week Home Bible Study in their home. The best person to teach this is the person who won the New Convert to the Lord.
a. A copy of all New Convert Altar Cards will be given to you for this purpose.

** If any new convert is unable to attend the regularly scheduled New Converts Class taught at the church, shall insure that they are taught the “In My Father’s House” course in their home by a
qualified teacher.
a. The New Convert Care Director will inform you of this if the need arises.
b. The best person to teach this is the person who won the New Convert to the Lord.
Note: This course should be taught BEFORE the 10-week study, in this case.

** Shall work with the New Life Class instructor to encourage New Converts to become involved in the H.B.S. ministry.
a. A special training course should be offered to each group of N.L.C. graduates.

** Shall keep and maintain an inventory of all necessary H.B.S. materials, manuals, charts, leaflets, tracts, etc.

Other Duties

** Shall work with the Pastor to select an assistant to help you in all aspects of your departmental duties.

** Shall endeavor to not schedule any departmental activities on Monday night. Monday will be known as “Family Night” and all church members are encouraged to stay home with their families on this night.

** Shall be an example to the church in faithfulness by attending all church services and functions.

** Shall be an example to the church in soulwinning by being continually involved in the Home Bible Study Ministry. This is a must.

** Shall be an example to the church in spiritual growth by coming at least one-half hour before each service to pray.

** Shall attend all Annual Planning Retreats and Monthly Departmental Planning Councils.

** If unable to attend because of emergency, shall inform the Pastor in advance and endeavor to have a substitute attend in your place.

** Shall hand in an official monthly report at the Monthly Staff Council.

** Shall perform additional duties as required.

Organizational Relationships

The Home Bible Study Director is responsible directly to the Pastor. Each year, the Pastor and H.B.S. Director will review this Job Description, update and improve to make more applicable to the
position. Accountability shall consist of a monthly report of all activities and upcoming events. The director is responsible for all Home Bible Study staff and personnel. The director shall work closely with all departments, but especially with New Convert Care, Outreach, and Visitor Follow-up. Evaluation of performance of this position shall be performed by the Pastor on an annual basis. The term of this office shall be for one year.

Training and Development

** Read and complete the workbook “How to teach a Home Bible Study” and “Explosive Church Growth through Home Bible Study” both by Ronnie Wilhoit (Search for Truth).

** Read “Spiritual Reproduction Through Home Bible Study” by Jack Yonts

** Read “Let My People Grow” By Tim Massengale

** Read additional book(s) provided by the Pastor.

Job Goals for the year of 19–

** Hold a Home Bible Study Seminar and Commitment Service with outside speaker.

** Plan a H.B.S. Emphasis month following seminar.

** Begin monthly H.B.S. promotion.

** Purchase, learn, and use the 1 & 2 lesson H.B.S.’s.

** Purchase all needed materials, charts, books, training materials, etc. to sell / loan.

** Use the Quest Survey at least every other month.

** Develop a good record keeping system.

** Contact all teachers weekly and begin handing in the H.B.S. weekly report.

** Try several new methods of getting H.B.S.

** Develop Job Descriptions for all interdepartmental positions.
