Job Purpose

To administer and motivate the World Missions Department in a manner that will encourage an ever expanding World Missions consciousness and involvement in the church. Your major focus will be upon the monthly Missions Sunday promotion and the annual Faith Promise Week. In doing this, you are promoting the spread of the Gospel world wide, as well as within our city. God blesses a missions giving church!

Job Qualifications

1. Must be filled with the Holy Ghost.
2. Must meet the qualifications for church membership.
3. Must be loyal to the Pastor.
4. Must be willing to work in harmony with others.
5. Must carry a burden for the Missions Ministry.
6. Must be able to lead and motivate others.
7. Must be a lover of souls.
8. Must be faithful and dependable in accomplishing duties.
9. Must have a stable walk with God.
10. Must have a knowledge of the Faith Promise concept of giving.

Job Responsibilities

** Shall oversee and supervise all operations of the World Missions Department under the direction of the Pastor. Shall seek to implement all given duties with tact, zeal, and love.

** Shall collect and read all incoming foreign and home missionary letters.

** Shall plan a 15 min. Missions Sunday presentation the first Sunday Morning of each month.
a. Read the highlights of that months missionary letters. This should be brief.
b. Assign prayer partners for very special needs (check with Pastor).
c. Give that months Missions financial status report.
– Total number missionaries being sponsored
– Total monthly Church Pledge
– Total months Missions income
– If we reached it…Rejoice!
– If we missed it…Encourage!
d. Have two ushers spread out all missionary letters upon the altars and as a “missions” chorus is being sung, ask folks to come up and take a letter, thereby making that missionary their prayer partner for one month. If more are needed, photocopy extra for passing out. Keep this entire promotion positive in spirit.

** Shall promote Home Missions as much as possible at this monthly time also.

** Shall assist the Public Relations Director in designing a quarterly page for the monthly bulletin emphasizing “World Missions”. Highlight a missionary, country, and souls. Should have pictures and illustrations and include the quarters missions financial status.

** Shall assist the Pastor in planning an annual World Missions Convention Week and Faith Promise Service to renew our missions awareness and enlarge our missions support.

** Shall assist the Pastor in selecting individuals to write all missionaries that we support each quarter.
a. A sample letter is to be provided to all letter writers. This letter is to be written by you and approved by the Pastor.
b. Letter is to encourage and uplift the missionaries. Shall also contain some church and district news.
c. Always let the missionary know that a personal reply is not necessary to this letter.
d. For an excellent set of guidelines in this area, write Foreign Missions Division, UPCI.

** Shall keep the missions bulletin board neat and up to date. Missions Board design and theme must be changed each quarter.

** Shall promote and encourage the annual “Christmas For Christ” offering in December.

** Shall promote and encourage giving to the following ministries:
a. Tupelo Children’s Mansion
b. Spirit Of Freedom
c. Lighthouse Boy’s Ranch

** Shall assist in other missions duties as required.

Other Duties

** Shall assist Pastor in selecting a departmental assistant to help you in your duties.

** Shall endeavor to not schedule any departmental activities on Monday night. Monday will be known as “Family Night” and all church members are encouraged to stay home with their families on this night.

** Shall be an example to the church in faithfulness by attending all church services and functions.

** Shall be an example to the church in soulwinning by being continually involved in the Home Bible Study Ministry, or some other form of outreach ministry.

** Shall be an example to the church in spiritual growth by coming at least one-half hour before each service to pray.

** Shall attend all Annual Planning Retreats and Monthly Departmental Planning Councils.

** If unable to attend because of an emergency, shall inform the Pastor in advance and endeavor to have a substitute attend in your place.

** Shall hand in an official monthly report at the Monthly Staff Council.

** Shall perform additional duties as required.

Organizational Relationships

The Missions Director is responsible directly to the Pastor. Each year, the Pastor and Director will review this Job Description, update and improve to make more applicable to the position. Accountability shall consist of a monthly report of all activities and upcoming events. The Missions Director is responsible for all inter-departmental staff and personnel. The director shall work closely with all departments, but especially with Public Relations. Evaluation of performance of this position shall be performed by the Pastor on an annual basis. The term of this office shall be for one year.

Training and Development

** Read “Let My People Grow” by Tim Massengale ( Revival Research)
** Read at least two biographies written by U.P.C. missionaries (PPH).
** Read “The Challenge of Missions” by Oswald J. Smith (G.R. Welch Co., Limited)
** Read “The Senders” by P.B. Smith (Same as above) Write: The People’s Church 374 Sheppard Ave. East, Willowdale, Ontario, Canada, M2N 3B6
** Read additional book(s) provided by Pastor

Job Goals for the year of 1988

** Begin Monthly Missions Sunday Presentation.
** Have annual Missions Week & Faith Promise Service.
** Begin sending letters to missionaries.
** Redesign and improve the Missions Bulletin Board.
** Design quarterly missions page for the monthly Church Bulletin.
** Develop Job Descriptions for all interdepartmental positions.
